Mobilizing Development Finance for Strategic and Scaled-up Investment in Climate Adaptation

img

International aid has significantly contributed to financing Nepal’s development endeavors ever since the country stepped into the era of planned development. However, a persistent challenge remains the substantial gap between the amount of financing required by developing countries to meet their adaptation needs and current levels of investment. The research project “Mobilizing Development Finance for Strategic and Scaled-up Investment in Climate Adaptation” aims to generate knowledge needed to advance the mainstreaming of adaptation in development finance strategies to support the scaling up of investments in ways that are strongly aligned with country-defined adaptation needs. It examines processes in Multilateral Development Banks (MDBs) and national government to identify barriers that limit the use of development financing to address national adaptation priorities and opportunities to overcome these constraints. This research project is implemented by the International Institute for Sustainable Development (IISD) in partnership with Prakriti Resoures Centre (PRC) in Nepal. The project is is supported by Canada's International Development Research Centre (IDRC).
