Beyond the Tick Box: Why Gender Justice Must Move from Climate Rhetoric to Real Accountability

Gender is increasingly included in climate policies and programmes, but meaningful gender justice requires more than simply ticking a box.

Through its collaboration with Tewa, Prakriti Resources Centre (PRC) piloted a Gender-Just Climate Solutions (GJCS) approach with women’s groups across five municipalities. This work led to the development of Gender-Just Climate Solutions: Principles and Indicators, Volumes 1 & 2—practical tools to help assess, monitor, and strengthen gender justice and accountability in climate action.

As climate crises intensify, the focus must shift from symbolic inclusion to meaningful participation, accountability, and transformation.
