Promoting Protection and Solidarity for Climate Migrants and Displaced Communities, Continuation

Climate -induced disaster are one of the major reasons for displacement and migration worldwide. On average, the world witnessed 25.3 million displacements annually from 2008 and 2016. Weather related disasters top the list, accounting for 86% of the total displacements. As the global temperature continues to rise, likelihood of an increase in the frequency and magnitude of weather related disaster events such as floods, landslides, cyclones and storm cannot be ruled out. More people are likely to get displaced over the years. Nepal being a country vulnerable to multi-hazards faces recurring floods, landslides and drought and other disasters. Annually approximately 96000 Nepali gets displaced because of sudden on-set disaster events.

  • People affected by/potentially affected by climate induced Migration receive more public and political attention and protection.
