Operationalizing Finance for Loss and Damage Explores

Vulnerable countries and communities are already experiencing severe losses and damages from unavoidable climate change impacts. They urgently need financial support to help them recover for the impacts now and in the future. This project explores how viable financial tools, structure and modalities for addressing climate-imposed loss and damage can be operationalized within the international climate architecture and in accordance with climate justice principles.

Objectives:

  • Flesh out the types of potential structures and modalities that could be established at the global, national and subnational levels to ensure fair and quick finance dissemination.
  • Develop a methodology for and conduct locally-led needs assessments of loss and damage finance, including determining how much finance is required and what activities need to be funded in a series of participatory case studies.
