Civil Society Engagement for Gender-just Climate Solutions and Actions in Nepal
The project is implemented in Nepal covering the federal and local government levels. It will be implemented in partnership with three women-led CBOs (Sahayatra Nepal, Ilam Municipality; Srijansheel Mahila Samaj Nepal, Tarkeshwor Municipality and Mahila Jagaran Samuha, Banepa Municipality (Palika). These CBOs are grantee partners of Tewa – Philanthropy for Equitable Justice and Peace and have been working in women’s empowerment. These groups have recently started conducting environment and climate activities after capacity-building support from PRC in these areas. PRC provided similar support to the other five women’s CBOs last year. The project has been built on the experience and learning from a previous project also supported by GAGGA/Both ENDS. The previous project facilitated women-led CBO’s linkage to a larger platform (Climate and Development Dialogue) at the federal level, enhanced their lobby and advocacy skills that facilitated their increased engagement and negotiations with the Palikas, and gradual access to Palika funds for the women-led environment and climate actions. However, the risk of the Palikasdiscontinuing their support to such women-led actions persists as long as particular legal or policy arrangements at Palika level is made focusing on gender-just climate adaptation and resilience-building measures. The objective of this project is to contribute to building an inclusive, just and sustainable Nepal that addresses climate change and builds the resilience of people and ecosystems.
